A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master

Director: Renny Harlin Writers: Wes Craven, William Kotzwinkle Stars: Robert Englund, Rodney Eastman, John Beckman A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988) – IMDb   Freddy never takes a rest, does he? Another movie for the Dream Man… this time continuing where he left off. Despite his need to finish things off, somehow another group of teens ends up in the thralls of the Dream Man. Now honestly, there’s not a whole lot that can be said about this movie that I haven’t said about the previous three. They do manage to keep it somewhat fresh by taking things in a somewhat new direction, without deviating too far from the previously established formula, but still, it’s a movie worth watching. Because of the quality Wes Craven and his friends put out, this is still a three bloody kitties out of five movie – you just can’t keep Freddy...

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

Director: Chuck Russell Writers: Wes Craven, Bruce Wagner Stars: Heather Langenkamp, Robert Englund, Craig Wasson A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) – IMDb The next step in the adventures of Freddy Kruger. This time, the man of your dreams is invading the dreams of teenagers occupying the Psych Ward – all with the same issue. This one sees the introduction of more creepy children – along with a familiar face. One of my favorite features of this movie is the introduction of one young “Larry” Fishburn. Now, all said, it matches right up with the previous movies. Scary dreams, unanswered question, and so on. Moments where you think everyone got out safely – but wait! Of course, this one takes a few new steps in the direction of special effects – nothing ground breaking, but still interesting. It’s an easy rating on this one – holding up the chain of quality. Freddy rips his way to a three bloody kitties out of...

A Nightmare on Elmstreet 2: Freddy’s Revenge

Director: Jack Sholder Writers: David Chaskin, Wes Craven Stars: Robert Englund, Mark Patton, Kim Myers A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985) – IMDb The follow-up to the original hit – this movie continues the story of the Man of Your Dreams – or rather nightmares as it is. If you haven’t seen the first movie – go back and watch it, since this one will contain information that involves the first. While they’re not spoilers, it is better understood after you see the first movie. The nice thing about this movie is that it’s really before the time of “template sequels”, so while it does have a formula it follows, it doesn’t mind changing things up to provide extra excitement. But as all older movies, it really hasn’t aged too well. The outdated look of the 80’s really doesn’t seem to play well with younger audiences, even though it’s still an interesting story. The acting is what you expect from your typical 80’s fair – not Oscar worthy, but still good enough to match the content – and of course Robert Englund is the only Freddy in my heart. So in short, it’s a good movie, not astounding, which is normal when you have a full series of them, but definitely one I do suggest watching – I’ve probably rewatched it a number of times, netting it...

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

Director: Samuel Bayer Writers: Wesley Strick, Eric Heisserer Stars: Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) – IMDb Alright. Normally I’m pretty neutral on these things, but this was AWFUL. I don’t even have a preamble for it, it was THAT bad. Freddy is a horror icon. To reduce him to what this movie has is absolutely pathetic. This movie has a number of call backs to all the originals – but not in a good way. It’s rather pathetic the way the try to mix in iconic Freddy moments with this Freddy wanna-be and the extremely weak story line. The acting was weak, the music was boring, and the effects? The reliance on visual computer effects only served to further ruin the entire Freddy experience. Freddy’s iconic make-up and look are gone… leaving you with nothing but a pathetic pile of what used to be one of the most nightmare inducing franchises of the 80’s. I’m not even going to talk more about it. This is one sad bloody kitty out of...

The Gorenos

Director/Writer: Clarence Williams IV Stars: Ken Sagoes, Mitchell Edwards, Scott Alda Coffey The Gorenos (2016) I love a “bad” horror movie as much as the next person – this one however, is something special. For a low budget movie, with poor cinematics, I surprisingly really enjoyed it. I will say there are likely a lot of men who will also enjoy it thanks to certain things… but even that doesn’t bother me too much. Despite being low budget, it has some remarkable humor to it. It is some what like a cross between Zombie Strippers and Scream. If you understand that, then you’re a pretty devout horror fan – or you really like movies with strippers in them. For the scare factor – I’d have to say it’s pretty low. But it definitely works as a Horror/Comedy. This is one of those movies that will definitely appear in my stream on GabTV because it’s just so unique and amusing. Despite the low scare factor, I’m thinking that this has to be a three bloody kitties out of...
